Jon and Ely go together like peanut butter and jelly (you know its right because it even rhymes). I’ve never met a couple that has a connection like these two do. They’ve been through so much together and their bond is strong and one of a kind. I felt so privileged to document these images of this amazing duo in July. We all laughed a lot and had a great time walking around RINO. Please enjoy this sweet Denver couple session. Who says you can’t take updated couple portraits just because?
How did you two meet?
We met the first week of freshman year at the University of Denver. We were both fortunately placed in sophomore dorms and happened to be next door neighbors. One day, Ely was was looking for Jon’s roommate and instead of the roommate opening the door, Jon was there. We had both returned recently from living abroad (Jon was in France and Ely was in Cost Rica) and we immediately hit it off. We stuck together, even though we entered college (like the young kids do) with the fervor afforded to the newly liberated and independent. We haven’t let go since, over 11 years.
What is a memory you will forever cherish with one another?
Our honeymoon was an experience from our dreams. One month driving through Western Europe, attempting to embrace every adventure together. One of our favorite and most memorable moments from our trip was arriving in Graz, Austria, a small college town. We immediately fell in love with the old architecture entwined with modern art design. Our first evening in Graz, we found our way to a restaurant serving authentic Austrian food. In a fit of laughter, we ordered everything on the menu. The waiter looked at us like we were the craziest Americans he had ever met which just made us laugh even harder. The food and drinks were otherworldly and the moment is one we will never forget.
What do you love most about the other one?
Ely > Jonathan: Jonathan is always keeping me on my toes. His wit (pushing ridiculousness most days) is filled with humor and an immense intelligence that only his eyes give away. He makes me belly laugh, provides me with all the tender love and care one could ever want or need, and always thinks of me first. He loves me more that I could ever know. He is my best friend, my mentor, my partner, my comfort, my motivation, my greatest joy, my heart. All I will ever wish is for more time with him.
Jonathan > Ely: Ely is my rock in this life. Whenever I get to spend time with her I remember what it means to be truly happy. She challenges me to be more conscientious, caring, and see parts of this life and world that I would never think of seeing. I’m truly blessed to be able to spend time with such a wonderful person.
What advice would you give to other couples to keep their bond strong?
Be truly purposeful with how you love your partner, life is full of amazing moments and you need to take time to appreciate them fully. Always remember, you are the lucky one. And laugh, laugh hard, laugh often.
