David & Kathryn’s wedding day was absolutely spectacular! These are my kind of people. I loved their attention to detail in making the whole day fun! So thankful I was able to document such a special day with so many wonderful humans in one place. I can’t say it enough I really do have the best job I could ever imagine for myself!

What was the favorite part of your wedding day?

Just having so many people we love in one place. We live in Denver and have some family here, but most of our family and friends live out of state, so it’s rare that we get to see everyone. Being able to share our big day with such special people made it even more special.

Ya Ya Farm & Orchard Wedding What was your favorite thing to design/plan?

We loved being able to incorporate our families’ traditions into the day. One side of Dave’s family is Jewish, so we incorporated a few Jewish traditions into the day, like the breaking of the glass and the Hora. Kathryn’s mom remembers pizza being delivered at all the weddings she went to with her family as a child, so we had a bunch of pizza delivered to the venue as the night was wrapping up. It was fun for us, and a nice way to acknowledge our families.

One of the very best decisions we made in planning our wedding was hiring Kim to be our wedding photographer (and we’re not just saying that because this might be on her blog). Kim listened to our hopes for the wedding, and then helped to make them a reality. She and her second shooter were professional, timely, and perfectly captured the day. Our guests raved about her, and we’ve gotten so many compliments on our beautiful wedding photos. We can never thank her enough for being a part of what was, for us, an absolutely perfect day.

Where did you go for your honeymoon? What was the best part?
A couple years ago, we decided we were going to try to visit all 59 US National Parks together, and we started taking long road trips over the summers to see them (we both work in schools and have our summers off). For our honeymoon, we planned another road trip to check off some parks that had been on our bucket list. We drove 8,500 miles and saw Wind Cave, Badlands, Theodore Roosevelt, Glacier, Voyageurs, Isle Royale, Acadia, Shenandoah, and Cuyahoga Valley National Parks, as well as Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada. The best part was just exploring all these awesome places we’d never been before – hiking a challenging trail together, or catching a glimpse of some wildlife (we even spotted a wolverine!), or just grabbing a beer at a local brewery. It was definitely a trip to remember!

If you could give one piece of advice to other brides who are planning their weddings, what would it be and why?
Plan the wedding you want, not the wedding you think you should have. When we set out to plan our day our biggest hope was that our guests wouldn’t feel like they went to wedding, but rather like they went to our wedding. That meant including things that we love, and getting rid of traditions that didn’t feel like us. Neither one of us cares about cake, but we love ice cream. So, we took the money we could have spent on a cake and brought in an ice cream truck for dessert. We love to camp, so we lit a campfire, and set up a s’mores station for our guests to enjoy. We are both die hard Chicago Cubs fans, so we walked out of our ceremony to Go, Cubs, Go while my dad waved a W flag behind us. There was no bouquet toss, no garter toss, no cake cutting, but we still had a blast. Our guests loved the personal touches, and nobody missed the cake 🙂
