If there’s one rule to follow when having a fall wedding in Colorado, it’s to expect the unexpected. For Rachel and James’ wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch we initially had expected to have an outdoor ceremony, though Colorado had other plans for us. Hitting us the weekend of their October wedding was a full on blizzard! Even with the extreme weather, as well as the sudden change in ceremony location, Rachel and James weren’t about to let anything get in the way of them both having THE best day ever.

Getting Ready for Their Wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch

I’m always a fan of wedding venues that have getting ready spaces on site so that my couple is able to minimize their travel needs on their wedding day. This was especially nice for Rachel and James’ celebration as the less time they spent on the road in a blizzard the better! The warm, rustic getting ready spaces set against the constant snowfall outside made for such a unique setting for the two to get ready in! Once they were in their wedding attire we braced ourselves and braved the outdoors for their first look.

Amidst the falling snow, and the beautiful grounds of Spruce Mountain Ranch, Rachel and James saw one another for the first time on their wedding day. It was such a beautiful moment, and a fantastic showcase of the joyous love these two hold for one another. Following their first look we had some time for couples, wedding party, and family portraits which was so nice. Taking care of all these different portrait photos this early in the day, and in a space as beautiful as Spruce Mountain Ranch, was a dream come true as it allowed Rachel and James to fully enjoy the remainder of their wedding day!

Their Wedding Ceremony Inside of Spruce Mountain Ranch

One of the many lovely aspects of Rachel and James’ celebration was how the two wove Jewish wedding traditions into their day to honor their heritage. One such instance was the signing of the Ketubah, which is a Jewish wedding contract. With the support of their closest friends and family, and wearing THE biggest smiles on their faces, Rachel and James both signed the contract which then meant it was time for their ceremony to begin.

While not their original plan for their wedding ceremony, the interior of Spruce Mountain Ranch was a phenomenal fall back option. The stunning space had SO much natural light available thanks to the fresh snowfall. That combined with the orange florals and warm wood tones of the space made for a beautiful backdrop for this moment.

There was a palpable feeling of excitement, joy, and a whole lot of love in the air during the ceremony. It was so clear just how special this day was, and how much it meant to everyone, none more so than Rachel and James. After a beautiful ceremony, the two were officially newlyweds, which meant it was time to party!

A Wonderful Evening of Celebration

Following their ceremony, Rachel, James, and I snuck outside for some couples portraits using the beautiful, snowy Colorado landscape as our backdrop. These two were having so much fun together, even in the freezing cold. With most of their portraits already out of the way, Rachel and James were even able to mingle with their guests a bit during cocktail hour. Soon though, it was time for their wedding reception inside Spruce Mountain Ranch to begin. With some lovely toasts, sweet first dances, the Jewish Hora dance, and an epic dress change from Rachel, the night was full of so many amazing and memorable moments. It was an unforgettable night of celebration, and I couldn’t imagine a better setting for it than Spruce Mountain Ranch!

I’m still just as in love with Rachel and James’ wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch as I was the day it happened. These two made the most of their day even with the weather, and documenting their incredible love for one another was such a joy from start to finish!
