It’s hard to really put into words how special Ann and Morgan’s wedding at The Surf Hotel in Buena Vista, Colorado was, but here goes nothing! These two incredible people crafted a day that was equal parts focused on celebrating the love they have for one another, and the love they share for all their friends and family. The intimate celebration at the iconic Surf Hotel was unforgettable from start to finish, and I’m so excited to relive all my favorite moments here today. First though, I wanted to give a quick shoutout to Ann for the lovely review she left:
“I can’t speak highly enough of Kim. She was irreplaceable on the day of our wedding. Just an absolute calming joy, and SO on top of it. I knew we lucked out when we booked her because she’s as talented as she is kind – and then we got our wedding album back. They’re more precious to us than we could have anticipated. Every time we look, we see something new. The sheer quantity of quality photos is mind boggling, and she somehow got those ‘core memory’ moments you can’t plan for but just happen. Kim’s photography is the kind that will make you feel a memory again. And she nails those ‘must haves’ too. We’d hire her again in a heartbeat.” -Ann
A Beautiful Start to Their Wedding Day in Buena Vista, Colorado
As far as wedding venues go, Ann and Morgan would have been hard pressed to choose a more perfect fit than The Surf Hotel. Not only does the hotel have stunning spaces and a stylish, classic European design to it, but Ann and Morgan also have a personal connection to Buena Vista. This is the town where they fell in love with one another which made their wedding here all the more special.
The day began with Ann and Morgan getting ready with their friends and family at The Surf Hotel. On one of my first calls with Ann and Morgan they made it clear just how much their people mean to them, and this was immediately apparent as soon as I arrived. Every moment these two shared with their loved ones felt as important as the next, and they were sure not to take ANYTHING for granted. Once they were both ready, and after some first looks with some of their loved ones, we headed out for a private moment between the two.
Earlier that morning I had scouted a location for a first look between Ann and Morgan, and I’m so glad I did as Google Maps did NOT point me in the right direction initially! This spot had the incredible Mount Princeton as the backdrop, and was THE perfect space for Ann and Morgan’s first look. It was a beautiful moment, and afterwards the two had some time to share their private vows with one another. This was another moment that they had let me know was extremely important to them during our first call, and I’m so glad we were able to make it happen in a space as wonderful as this!
Portraits and an Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at The Surf Hotel
After Ann and Morgan’s first look and private vows we had some time lined up for portrait photos. First were couples photos of Ann and Morgan in the landscapes of Buena Vista, then as we made our way back to The Surf Hotel we joined up with their wedding parties for group portraits. Having all of their favorite people here in Buena Vista, Colorado to celebrate their wedding meant SO much to Ann and Morgan, and you can really see it in their photos! Family portraits came next, and soon after it was time for their ceremony to begin.
In the outdoor stone courtyard of The Surf Hotel, Ann, Morgan, and their 60 guests all gathered together for this special moment. Between the endless smiles, bouts of laughter, and more than a few happy tears shed, it was an emotional and beautiful celebration of this relationship that had brought everyone together. Soon, Ann and Morgan were officially newlyweds, and after a group portrait outside of The Surf Hotel it was time to celebrate!
An Epic Wedding Reception in The Surf Hotel
Before the reception really got underway, Ann and Morgan were able to spend some time with their guests during cocktail hour since most of their portrait photos were already taken care of! I loved this as it gave them some real time to slow down and enjoy themselves with their friends and family. Later on we made our way inside for the start of their reception, which they kicked off in the coolest way.
They started the festivities with their first dance, which was to the song “There Will Be Time” by Mumford & Sons. The song starts slow, but has this epic build up at which point they asked everyone to get on the dance floor with them. It was such a fun and feel good way to start the evening! The night continued with epic toasts, delicious food, and an absolutely packed dance floor making Ann and Morgan’s wedding day in Buena Vista truly unforgettable.
I’m so honored to have been a part of Ann and Morgan’s wedding day at The Surf Hotel in Buena Vista, Colorado! I’m in awe of the day these two created, and I’m so glad to have been able to share some of my favorite moments here with you today.
