Scott and Shelby fit together like puzzle pieces made for one another. They met in Boulder so it was only fitting that we took their engagement photos their. I absolutely loved getting to know these two better during the last year! This couple loves laughing together and it’s quite easy to tell when you look at the images that the love they have for one another runs deep. The whole engagement session was a giggle fest and I enjoyed every second of it. We had the perfect weather for this beautiful boulder engagement session and I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together!
How did you two meet?
Shelby: We lived next door to one another in Boulder, CO! I (Shelby) was still in college at CU and Scott had moved out to Boulder after graduating from college. My roommate had a dog that would always go over to Scott’s yard to play with his dog. Of course the dogs needed supervision so we would always stand in the yard and watch the dogs play. It was about a year of getting to know each other like this before he asked me on a date! Scott wrote a blurb on how we met and his first impressions of me so I thought I would share it below.
Scott: Looking back now, the story I tell myself is that I fell in love with the girl next do but, in all honesty, when Shelby and her roommates moved in, I thought they were just the ‘irresponsible college chics next door’. Shelby’s roommate had a dog, Kaya, that would always take off and run through the neighborhood so most of my first interactions with Shelby were watching her try to catch this dog as it ran off. Eventually, my roommate at the time, Andreas, convinced me that the girls next door weren’t as bad as I made them out to be and over time we found ourselves hanging out more and more in our front yard and letting our dogs play.
Isn’t her ring just gorgeous?!
What do you love most about the other
Scott: I’m not sure that it’s possible for me to put into words what I love about Shelby most – I don’t necessarily think that there was ever something specific or quantifiable about her that flipped some switch in me 4 years ago from ‘I like this girl’ to ‘I love this girl’. My love for her is a synthesis of all the things that she does that make her who she is – the small glances she gives me or the funny faces she makes, the thoughts that go through her head and come out her mouth, the jokes she makes, the small things she does that I don’t even notice until long after she has done them, the way she snuggles at night, the way she pushes me when I need to be pushed or comfort me when I need to be comforted; it’s all of those things together. She accepts me for me, she understands who I am and I hope that I do the same for her. So, in the end, maybe the best I can do trying to verbalize what I love most about Shelby is that any moment with her is far better than any moment without her.
Shelby: Okay so I wrote out something and then read what Scott wrote. How can I compete with that? In all honesty I never thought that I would meet a guy who just gets me. Scott is the most loving, sweet, and genuine guy I have ever known. He is constantly making me laugh and knows just how to be the calming force I sometimes so desperately need. He treats everyday as an adventure and I am so lucky to go through life with him by my side!
Why did you pick your current venue and what went into that?
We chose Pastures of Plenty, a working flower and vegetable farm right outside Boulder, CO. We wanted somewhere we could celebrate outside with a chill atmosphere and this was the perfect place for that! The venue being set in Boulder is perfect as that is where we met and fell in love! Other than the location, there was so much more we loved. We are foodies and the catering is farm-to-table (a lot of the ingredients are from the farm itself) so that was a huge selling point. We also thought it was cool to be able to incorporate the flowers grown on the property into our big day in our bouquets and flower arrangements. As soon as we got there while looking at venues it felt like “us.” There are so many venues out there (and so many beautiful ones at that), but for us we wanted a place that did not throw multiple weddings per weekend or per day. We wanted a unique spot where we did not feel like we were just another wedding on the schedule for the weekend. Pastures of Plenty only hosts a select few weddings a year which made it really special for us to get married here!
What excites you the most about your wedding day?
Getting to celebrate with all of the people who love us! It is overwhelming and wonderful when RSVPs start flooding in of people who are going to make it to the wedding. We feel so lucky to have been blessed with so many people in our lives support us, encourage us, and love us and want to make the trek out to Colorado to watch us get hitched! Our hearts are full and we cannot wait to share this special day with everyone.
What advice would you give to couples planning their big day?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Although details are important and really pull the day together, at the end of the day what is important is that you get to marry the love of your life and celebrate with all the people you love.
Also, we found that it is best to make decisions quickly and move on. If you dwell on every decision and detail you will never get anywhere! There are thousands of decisions you make when planning a wedding from start to finish and if you are to dwell on every decision you will both start to go crazy and lose some of the excitement and happiness that comes with planning a wedding . Trust your gut and trust your partner’s opinions too. Once you both agree on something move forward and then move on!
